Explanation (not Quran text)
One chapter of the Quran opens with an oath by the sun and its brightness, drawing attention to something people see every day (91:1). It speaks of a lamp that the Creator placed in the sky, which early commentators identified as the sun (25:61), and says plainly that it is a sign to reflect on, not something to worship: prostration belongs to Allah who created it (41:37). The Prophet ﷺ taught that the sun and the moon do not eclipse because of anyone's death or birth; they are two of Allah's signs (al-Bukhari 1042).
